Mild/Moderate credential holders teach students in resource specialist programs, special day classes for learning disabilities, and some full inclusion students. Moderate/Severe credential holders will be able to teach students whose needs are more severe.
Since 1953, the program has been recognized for its personalized support, field-based learning, and successful graduate outcomes.
Program Learning Outcomes
- Demonstrate expertise in understanding diverse disabilities and tailoring specialized teaching to individual learning needs.
- Design and apply evidence-based, individualized interventions and assessments that enhance academic progress and communication.
- Develop comprehensive, legally compliant IEPs and transition plans that empower students with disabilities.
- Collaborate with families, educators, and community partners to foster inclusive, culturally responsive environments.
Career Outcomes
Earning a California Special Education Credential prepares graduates for roles such as Special Education Teacher or Program Coordinator in K-12 and specialized settings.
Adding the optional Master’s degree boosts earning potential and opens pathways to leadership, advocacy, and specialized roles. Together, the credential and MA provide a competitive edge for advancing careers in inclusive education and supporting diverse learners.
This combination meets California’s standards and addresses the growing need for skilled special educators across educational and community settings.
